Insomnia is one of the most common sleep disorders characterised by difficulty initiating sleep, maintaining sleep and/or waking too early. This impacts on daytime functioning.

INTRODUCTION TO CBT-I 

Introduction to the origins of CBT-I, how insomnia develops, understanding the difference between good sleep, sleep deprivation and insomnia. A personalised sleep diary is introduced with an initial experiential homework.

RELAXATION AND ASSOCIATIONS

We will explore the evidence base on all factors that contribute to positive habits around  your sleep-wake cycle. Relaxation and breathing play a fundamental part in how we approach sleep as well as  associations with the bedroom environment

HARNESSING QUALITY

We will take a closer look at the two key physiological drivers of the sleep-wake cycle and set an insightful foundation for developing long-term quality and quantity sleep with support from your first week's sleep diary.

ADDRESSING THOUGHTS 

In this session we unpick common thinking patterns found with insomnia, deconstruct these together and introduce more realistic ways of approaching our worries through a variety of proven techniques practiced in session.

BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER

Finally we introduce further cognitive techniques to help broaden your horizon around daytime activity away from just talking and thinking about sleep. We pull all strategies together in this session and set a focus for the next 3 months, before reviewing your progress.
